8 weeks 1 day pregnant.....with two!

Yes, everyone, that's right - two. Twins!! After 3 1/2 years of heartbreak and hormones, I finaly got that elusive "BFP". I'm not 100% sure how we got it to work this time - the new IF practice, the accupuncture, the weekly visits to church, the new regimen of medication or the feeling of utter despiration and feeling like we, as a couple, just couldn't go through another failed cycle. Our hearts were so bruised and battered - seeing our friends and co-workers get pregnant so easily, and working on their 2nd (or 3rd) child when we were still trying for our first.
We're over the moon excited (and maybe a little nervous). I felt so much better after my 2nd ultrasound. I was so afraid I would go for the u/s and find that one was a vanishing twin, but that is definitely not what happened. Both babies are measuring prefectly 8w0d (when they were really 7w6d) and both HR were in the 160s. It really hit me - we're finally pregnant - and we're lucky enough to have 2!!!

A little worried....

My BFFL, Cindy, has decided to run away to St. John USVI and take 40 of her closest friends and family with her. Unfortunately, a Category 3 hurricane has decided to come along for the ride. I have to admit, I'm not thrilled about flying through tropical storms and hurricaines to an island in the middle of the ocean, but I found myself glued to the weather channel at the gym this morning thinking "it's a week away - what do they know?" I mean, I guess they get paid the big bucks for some level of knowledge, but if they're anything like RI weathermen, they don't know what's going on from one minute to the next. Let's hope we don't blow away in a hurricane!

What is a Guster?

Bavarian Boarhound? Irish Wolf Hound? Alien from the planet Liptonn? We don't quite know. We do know he's a rescue dog from Arkansas, he doesn't bark, chew, or sit on the furniture. He's a human in a dog suit. He loves everyone (except Dave's parents and especially Michelle's parents), and is impervious to snow and cold. The one think we do know is that he IS a rockstar!

I'm Back!!

So, a new year means new year's resolutions. Mine - be a little better with blogging, even if I'm the only one that reads it. We have a lot to look forward to this year - Going to Vegas in Feb, and one of my very best friends is getting married in August. We've taken a few months off of our infertility treatments to relax, regroup, save money and loose weight.

Quilting

I did it! I made one of those fancy schmancy quilt squares that took me about 3 hours, but I did it. I really like the yellow/blue/green combo, and I'm hoping to make something for my sunroom which is *almost* done!! Just have to get the electricity flowing in there, a little bit of finishing work, and viola! Sunroom!! I'll be posting those pictures soon - the way before, before, during and after pictures.

Ireland - land of 10,000 roundabouts

Girls weekend in Ireland kicked ass!! After landing in Shannon, we hopped in a clown car (Fiat) and drove all around County Clare and the Burren. We proceeded to go to Waterford the next day, then to County Cork on day 2. Day 3 was County Galway, and day 4 was in Dublin. We pretty much did west, south, and east Ireland. We underestimated the size of the country, but we considered it a scouting mission. We know we loved west Ireland, and would go back in a heartbeat. Lots of driving, lots of laughing, and lots of hitting things with our car. Like I said, it was perfect!

Then, I was lucky enough to go to Marco Island, Florida straight from Ireland to go to a medical conference. Dave met me down there, and we sat on the beach and drank fruity girly drinks (well, I did anyway - he had manly beer). See, the benefit of not having kids yet is the ability to be such a globe trotter. I learned a bunch of important medical stuff while Dave caught up on much needed sleep. It's hard to believe that a week ago I had this view from my room, and now I'm on a triptophan high from my mom's turkey in 37 degree weather.
I miss the south.

Earnest George Blade 1918-2007

Today was the memorial service for my Great Uncle Ernie. He had a long life, joined the Navy, met a "special friend" with whom he lived with for almost 70 years. After the Navy, he became a farmer, then a chef. He was always so spunky! When I went to see him this summer in Pa, he was sick with cancer, in pain, and just pissed at the world - but would still crack a joke. Luckily, the Blade's have the long life gene. My Aunt Bertha is will be 98 this January, and my Aunt Edna is 94 - up until the past couple of years, my Aunt Edna would volunteer at a nursing home to "cheer up the old folks." Of course, the 'old folks' were 10-15 years younger than her. It's a shame families only tend to get together during weddings and funerals.
